Green Practices

Green Building Practices have always been important to Derek Rubinoff. Mr. Rubinoff received a substantial education in green building practices while studying under Vivian Loftness and Volker Hartkopf at Carnegie Mellon University, and worked for them at CMU’s Center for Building Performance. As a LEED accredited professional, Mr. Rubinoff has worked on LEED and other green building projects (including retail shell and interior projects for Columbia Sportswear and for the Yale Appliance and Lighting Store Prototype). Taking the lead to advance green building in Massachusetts, Mr. Rubinoff has repeatedly lobbied at the Massachusetts State House (representing the Boston Society of Architects) to support green building practices. Additionally, across the years, Mr. Rubinoff has been affiliated with Architects for Social Responsibility (Boston Society of Architects), the Green Building Alliance (Pittsburgh), the Citizens’ Advisory Panel of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Regional Planning Commission, and the Western Pennsylvania Sustainable Energy Association.

Derek Rubinoff Architect believes that significant value for clients can be created by designing and constructing buildings using green practices. The energy savings payback for creating energy efficient buildings is now substantially shorter, and owners are obtaining additional value when leasing or selling green buildings and interiors. Steeped in the skills of creating environmentally-friendly spaces, our firm is committed to designing the best-performing buildings obtainable within our clients’ budgets, and quality of life, be it aesthetic or environmental, is always at the forefront of our thinking.

Community Involvement

Derek Rubinoff Architect strongly supports and promotes smart growth initiatives, transit based development, and urban development which complements our existing infrastructure. To support our local community, Derek Rubinoff is active on the Design Committee for Roslindale Main Streets, Boston’s original Main Streets program. Derek Rubinoff is also an active Big Brother.
